New Delhi: Finally, Telangana is going to be a reality. After dillydallying over the creation of Telangana by dividing Andhra Pradesh, the Centre on Thursday decided to bite the bullet. The Union Cabinet cleared the Telangana note sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday. With this the 50-year-old fight for Telangana reaches it s logical end.

Soon after the Cabinet took a decision on the formation of Telangana, protest erupted in the Congress party with Human Resources Development Minister Pallam Raju likely to resign, said sources.
According to sources, Tourism Minister Chiranjeevi also offered to resign from the Cabinet.
Textile Minister KS Rao also voiced his dissent and protested the Cabinet decision to form a separate state of Telangana.
United Andhra Joint Action Committee in Andhra Pradesh too announced 72-hour bandh in view of the formation of Telangana.
The Congress-led UPA was initially reluctant to grant statehood to Telangana and kept the issue on the backburner for over 9 years, after it came to power in 2004.
The growing popularity of the YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the growing demand for a separate state in Telangana region seem to have forced the Congress to change its mind.
Shinde signed the Telangana note on Thursday morning ignoring voices of protest from Seemandhra leaders including the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The immediate fallout of the Telangana is likely to be a deluge of resignation of Congress MPs, MLAs and ministers in both Andhra Pradesh and at the Centre. The Seemandhra region, which has been shut down for over two months in protest against Telangana is likely to witness a total shut down and widespread protests following the Centre's decision.
The decision is expected to hugely benefit the YSR Congress in the Seemandhra region. The YSRCP is the only main party, which is openly advocating a united Andhra Pradesh.
Even though the decision is a good news for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) led by K Chandrashekhara Rao, it is not yet clear whether he will merge the TRS with the Congress or not. Chandrashekhara Rao has been saying that he will merge his party with the Congress, if the statehood is granted.
The creation of Telangana will elevate KCR's stature as the creator of Telangana. But, the Congress is likely to benefit politically from it.
The Congress is hoping that it can win almost all seats in Telangana with the support of TRS. There are 17 Lok Sabha and 119 Assembly seats there.
The Seemandhra region has 25 Lok Sabha and 175 Assembly seats.
The other major player in Andhra politics N Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party may find it very difficult to survive in the changed scenario, because of his ambiguous stand on division of the state.
